Many large employers use online application forms as part of the selection process. Application forms are used to streamline the evaluation process when large numbers of applicants need to be screened.

They are also used to assess:

• your ability to write clearly and concisely

• how well you can answer questions from the employer

• whether you have developed specific skills and qualities that are important to that employer

An application form may ask for information such as:

• your personal contact details

• your qualifications or education history

• work experience

• extra-curricular activities

• reasons for applying for the job

• evidence of your competencies in key skill areas such as teamwork, communication skills, or other skills relevant to the job – provide specific examples using the STAR method
